FEB Unud Master of Management Hosts Public Lecture on Strategic Management Implementation in the Hospitality Industry

Denpasar, Monday, May 18, 2026 – The Master of Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Udayana University, organized a public lecture titled “Applied Strategic Management in the Hospitality Sector.” The event featured Anak Agung Istri Ratna Dewi, the President Director of PT ITDC Nusantara Utilitas, as the keynote speaker. This initiative aimed to provide students with practical insights into the implementation of strategic management for developing a world-class hospitality and tourism industry.

During her presentation, the speaker explained that strategic management serves as the foundational cornerstone for the development of The Nusa Dua resort area. Through a SWOT analysis approach, initial challenges—such as infertile land conditions and limited accessibility—were successfully transformed into opportunities to build an international-caliber destination for luxury, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), and integrated tourism. This success has been sustained by the consistent enforcement of strict regional zoning regulations, including: A maximum building height restriction of four floors, A maximum density of 70 beds per hectare, A maximum land coverage of 35 percent, The mandatory integration of traditional Balinese architecture, and The placement of all utility networks underground.

Beyond physical infrastructure, the resort's development incorporates local cultural values through the Tri Mandala concept, which zones the area into Utama Mandala, Madya Mandala, and Nista Mandala. This approach has successfully struck a harmonious balance between economic growth, cultural preservation, and environmental sustainability. Today, The Nusa Dua employs approximately 8,500 workers—with a minimum of 30 percent sourced from local communities—and has been trusted to host high-profile global summits, including the 2013 APEC Summit, the 2018 IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings, the 2022 G20 Bali Summit, and the 2024 World Water Forum.

Through this public lecture, Master of Management students at FEB Udayana University gained a profound understanding that strategic management is not merely theoretical, but serves as a vital instrument for driving business and industrial longevity. The event is expected to sharpen students' competencies in grasping adaptive, innovative, and sustainability-oriented strategic management practices within the global hospitality and tourism sectors.
